Caribbean International will launch its cruise ship ‘Oasis of the Seas,’ the largest cruise ship in the world, in December 2009. The ship will span 16 decks, encompass 2,20,000 gross registered tonnes, carry 5,400 guests and feature 2,700 staterooms. At 361 meters (1,187 feet) in length, it will be almost 23 meters (75 feet) longer than the current largest passenger ship, the Independence of the Seas. It will also be nine meters (29 feet) wider, with a 43 per cent greater gross tonnage of 2,20,000.
Port Everglades in Fort Lauder dale, USA will be the home port of the Oasis of the Seas. It will begin her inaugural season with 19 consecutive seven-night sailings to the Eastern Caribbean, with ports of call at Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas; Philips-burg, St. Marten and Nassau, Bahamas. Starting May 1, 2010, Oasis of the Seas will alternate its Eastern Caribbean itinerary with the Western Caribbean itinerary, which will call at Labadee, Royal Caribbean’s private beach destination in Haiti; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. In 2010, Oasis of the Seas will be joined by a sister ship, Allure of the Seas.
